About This Release
An irrepressible force of nature, Little Richard was a seething mass of contradictions until the day he died, his deep, religious beliefs engaged in mortal combat with his outrageous personality, ambiguous sexuality and hedonistic lifestyle. This frequently led to ""The Georgia Peach"" retiring - the first time he turned his back on Rock'n'Roll was in 1957, at the very peak of his success - although he always seemed to find his way back to the frontline. His most successful body of work was for the Specialty label, between 1955 and 1958, during which he notched up twenty Pop and R&B hits, several of which were million sellers. All his early Specialty hits are featured on this set, including 'Tutti Frutti', 'Long Tall Sally', 'Rip It Up', 'The Girl Can't Help It', 'Lucille', 'Jenny Jenny', 'Keep A-Knockin', 'Good Golly, Miss Molly', etc.
